A record of how abstract thought defies gravity to become the stage of life
Hotel Villavieja
Typology:
Refurbishment and extension of a historic residential building for hotel use
Area:
1.045 m²
Location:
Old Town, Alicante, Spain
Status:
Completed (2025)
Budget:
€890,000
Context:
Full refurbishment of a historic building that formerly housed a small guesthouse, designed to recover its heritage value and adapt it for contemporary hotel use. The intervention highlights the building’s original elements, preserving its architectural identity through the recovery of its materials, textures and construction systems. The interior design project was developed by Studio HC Estudio Arquitectura Alicante.
Solution:
The intervention refurbishes and extends the building to bring it up to the functional and regulatory standards of a hotel establishment, integrating new systems and construction solutions with the utmost respect for the existing architecture.
The spatial layout is organized around the historic courtyard, the true heart of the building, presided over by two large palm trees that form a distinctive feature of the complex. Among the recovered heritage elements is a 16th-century ashlar-stone arch, a vestige of an earlier building on which the current one was erected. The restoration of the original finishes, both interior and façade, allows the comfort and amenities of a contemporary hotel to be combined with the authenticity and historic character of the building.

Architecture has always been a reflection of its time; our responsibility is to imagine, design and build the next one.
We believe in an architecture capable of anticipating new ways of living, investing and building, developing projects that go beyond the present to meet the needs of the future.
